Getting Started Guide
Everything you need to know ahead of your very first introductory visit to our indoor firing range.
Your First Visit: What to Expect
We ensure your introduction to target shooting is safe, structured, and welcoming.
Arrival & Sign-In
Upon arrival, a certified Range Conducting Officer (RCO) will sign you into our official attendance registry and check your photo identification documents.
Safety Briefing
Before handling any hardware, you will receive a 1-on-1 briefing detailing firearm handling etiquette, strict target line discipline, and range safety protocols.
Supervised Firing
You will move onto the live firing line under direct, 1-on-1 supervisor instruction, using a stable club-owned target rifle to shoot your first target cards.
What Should I Wear?
You do not need specialized shooting jackets or visors to get started. However, to maintain safety and tracking stability on our indoor range firing points, we ask all visitors to dress in accordance with basic range apparel standards:
- ✓ Flat-soled shoes or stable trainers (No open-toed footwear/sandals)
- ✓ Warm, layered clothing (Indoor ranges can be cool due to air extraction systems)
- ✓ Avoid excessively loose clothing or dangling accessories near the firing line
🛡️ Club Equipment Provided
Blairgowrie Rifle Club provides all essential protective and competitive hardware free of charge for probationary sessions. This includes clean safety ear defenders, tactical spotting scopes, and precision target-grade ammunition and pellets.
Strict Legal Declaration Requirements
Under **Section 21 of the UK Firearms Act 1968**, it is a strict criminal offence for anyone who has been sentenced to a term of imprisonment or youth custody (suspended or served) to handle or possess any firearms or ammunition.
Before stepping onto our range facilities, all probationary applicants and introductory visitors **must sign a formal written declaration** confirming that they are not legally prohibited from handling firearms under Section 21 parameters. Our club officers enforce this rule stringently to protect range integrity.
